At The Travel Corporation, we understand that travel matters; it allows us to explore the world and gain a deeper understanding of each destination, its history and culture, through enriching experiences. We also recognize that it is our responsibility to help protect the places we visit and take care of the world around us.

Established and funded as a joint initiative between The Travel Corporation’s family of brands, The TreadRight Foundation is a not-for-profit that works to help ensure the environment and communities we visit remain vibrant and preserved for generations to come. To date, TreadRight has donated more then USD 2.5 million to sustainable tourism projects worldwide.

TreadRight’s guiding principle is to encourage sustainable tourism development through conservation, leadership and support for communities. We encourage each of our partners to use this principle to guide all of their actions, whether at our regional offices or when taking guests around the world.

By providing grants to organisations that encourage sustainability in different destinations, we hope to maintain the natural attractions across the world that define each unique region. Foundation priorities are set by the Steering Committee, which includes sustainability leaders like Céline Cousteau and Costas Christ.

TreadRight’s past project partners include WWF, Conservation International and The National Trust in the UK. Current initiatives include sponsoring the National Geographic Society’s “World Legacy Awards”, WildAid and inspiring wildlife advocates lik eTerri Irwin. The foundation has recently launched new project partnerships with WildAid and The Wilderness Foundation as part of the global effort to stop rhino poaching in Africa.

In addition to the work that we do with our TreadRight Foundation, many of our 4,000 strong team members regularly participate in local fundraising and volunteer projects, including Tourism Cares volunteer projects, Sustainable Coastlines shoreline cleanups and many more. As a part of an international community, our offices’ partners and the destinations in which we operate have all been impacted at one time or another. When tragedy strikes we believe it’s simply our responsibility – no more, no less – to help. Some organisations we have supported in the past include The New Zealand Christchurch Earthquake Appeal (NZD$50,000 ) and The Australian Queensland Premier’s Flood Relief Appeal (AUD$50,000).

As part of The Travel Corporation’s 2010 International Sales Conference held in Cape Town, South Africa, conference delegates stepped out of their meetings and presentations for a day and stepped into supporting the local community. Working hand in hand with the Amy Biehl Foundation, conference delegates picked up tools and built a total of 21 ‘Wendy Houses’. These are small 4-wall homes, which were then donated to local communities, providing a significant impact for families in need. In addition many of our brands contribute to helping their local communities in many different ways, whether it be helping clean up local neighbourhoods or working on other conservation efforts to make a positive impact within the places we work.

Brett Tollman, Founder

The Travel Corporation has always strongly believed that travel and tourism companies play a vital role in protecting the world’s natural habitats, cultural heritage sites and communities both in where we live and where we travel to.”
